4Understanding Human Beings  Aug 14, 2010
The culture of bullying, inept bosses continues despite a growing wealth of information about this topic & increased frequency of news stories reporting the attempt of bullying & inept bosses to break the human spirit. This book is no magic bullet in response to that. It is written for those sentient beings who are looking for a better way of doing things, and open to some procedural & structural guidance on the topic. The author covers the basics, and helps to identify some of the things that caring people need to avoid. In other words, if you want to do a better job, read this. If you are part of the previously referenced management mindset--it won't matter.

4Theoretical but very useful  Jan 26, 2010
I've used this book as part of a course on the Human Skills for PM. It covers the key issues that are required for the PMP examination. The book provides a useful theoretical basis for getting into the key issues related to leading in a project environment. On its own it doesn't cover the practical aspects, but is useful when coupled with an experienced instructor.

2Good overview but too theoretical  Feb 09, 2008
In this second volume, the author covers almost all soft issues: how to organize great meetings, active listening, conflict management tactics, motivation theories (such as Maslow's, Erg's, Herzberg's and Mc Clelland's), guidelines for successful negotiations and team development stages.
It is a good summary but is a bit short of practical examples or case studies to make this knowledge actionable.
