Good guide, but not immediately usable Feb 06, 2010
By dmcbean I am glad that PMI finally pulled together a companion guide to the PMBOK. The content is valid and adequate but the format and the appearance is very disappointing. Although the title of the book states "FORMS" I was expecting a more professional looking set of templates that could be modified to include a company name and logo. These are very basic forms that have no headers, footers or margins. The border around each page prohibits you from expanding a certain text box to accommodate more text without corrupting the entire page formatting.
The book shows each form with instructions inside each field to be completed; however that information is not included in the electronic copy. If you needed to assign this form to someone else to complete, it would be a challenge to complete it correctly without guidance.
Aesthetically they look like a "pen and ink" fill in the blank form from the 1970's and not like something that was created in a robust word processor such as WORD. They are a good guide for content, but not immediately usable.

Not Bad but we expect more!! Feb 03, 2010
By A. M. Barradah It is a good start for using a standardized PMP forms. I have searched online for many forms but each organization has its own type of forms. So, the book is helpful in paving the road for new PMPs regarding documentation.
However, the explanation of each form is very vague and brief. I was expecting more descriptions and explanatiosn about the purpose of each form and each header inside the form since it is open for customization. I hope the next release will put that into consideration.

Starting Place For Forms Jan 03, 2010
By Buyer in KY It was cheaper to buy this book from Amazon instead of the Project Management Institute--(PMI), "Even for PMI Members", after postage. Amazon also "has" customer service, so where to buy this is was a no brainer.
Many of the forms in the book are just a series of empty blocks with section headers from the Project Management Book of Knowledge, PMI's (PMBOK 4th) Edition. So the offered forms are often rudimentary. So if the purchaser is savvy to PMI and PMBOK and looking for a baseline book of forms for a project management program, this is it. This is a great place to start that journey of developing forms for your Program Management Office (PMO), congratulations to Ms Stackpole and team!
Lastly, The price of the book felt egregious, but of course that is a matter of perspective.

Beneficial Resource Jan 27, 2010

As a companion to the PMBOK Guide, 4th addition, I have found the forms and templates included with this guide to be invaluable.
With the forms listed by process groups, you are provided a great review of the forms required for any particular project you are managing, thus becoming a fantastic aid, especially for new Project Managers.
Since the format of this book guides you to the forms you will need to clearly document your project, even experienced PMs will appreciate the logical approach used to organize the forms, because it works as a checklist for your project's required documentation.
Highly recommend as a go-to reference manual.

Good resource, Needs Customization for your needs Jul 11, 2009
By Nada Abandah

One of the good ideas that PMI has done recently. Although the majority of templates are clearly done in a hurry, and without putting too much thought into them (some are not even fit for actual implementation), but it is for sure a very good start for creating and establishing your own templates.
Full of fresh ideas.
